Pedenjcarstvo Unit
The Pedenjcarstvo (Pedenjkingdom) Unit resides in an urban environment. It features bright playrooms and an open-concept layout that allows preschool teachers to creatively plan their activities and adapt the environment to best suit their teaching methods. It also features a modern, fully equipped gymnasium and an atrium.
This unit hosts seven groups of children from 1 to 6 years, as well as a special playroom for children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Children in this program will socialise, play, and participate in activities with their peers from other sections.

The unit hosts 8 sections with children from 1 to 6 years of age including 1 section for children with ASD.More about the ASD section
The Pedenjcarstvo Unit also hosts a section with a specialised programme for children with Autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Children included in this section are assigned to the programme by the ASD Clinic at the Division of Paediatrics, University Medical Centre Ljubljana. The section is lead by 3 professional workers – two special pedagogues and one assistant teacher – and can accept up to 6 children. The programme follows the TEACCH teaching method. A special playroom that we use in this section is divided into segments which enable us to work individually with a single child at a time. It also enables the children to play or take some time off. The programme encompasses various methods, approaches, and individual care which include sensory and tactile integration, emotional literacy, behavioural-oriented approaches, spacial pedagogic treatments, play therapy, and motoric treatments. In cooperation with parents, we carefully prepare an individual programme for each child. Our focus lies in planning the programme in such a way to addresses every child's special needs. Our goal is to promote the development of a child's communication, social skills, and ability to adapt.
We take great care in connecting different preschool programmes by enabling children with ASD to be in contact with other children. In playrooms, children with ASD play and socialise in small groups with other children which helps them to develop their communication and social skills. Children with ASD also go on shorter trips, holidays, and cultural events along with other children from our preschool.
The primary goal of such intensive care is to develop children's skills that will help them succeed in further specialised educational programmes.
